History of the Empanada

Empanadas have been around for many centuries and almost every culture has a version of this pastry but where did it all begin? The origin of the empanada has been traced to Spain where it evolved from Arabic cuisine during the Moorish rule. The word “empanada” is derived from the Spanish verb “empanar” which means “to wrap in bread”. As Spanish explores and settlers traveled across the world you could see how an empanada would be great and easy to travel with. Today, empanadas have become so versatile and you can find many versions of them all over the world.

Meet the Owners

Stephanie

Growing up, witnessing the hardships my parents went through opening their own business had convinced me that that was not the path I wanted to take. I couldn’t imagine, nor did I want to go through the hardships of running my own business. Eventually, without knowing it, my life was leading me towards bae. So at the age of 25, I decided to go into the family business but bring my own flavor to things. It took about 2 years and a pandemic to be able to finally make a dream a reality but with the help of my family, bae found its home in the city of Campbell and we couldn’t have wished for a better place to call home. So with the love and support of those around me, I hope to create a safe, happy place where people can eat, drink and celebrate the differences in our cuisines.

I remember my passion for cooking started at a young age when my Mother taught my sisters and me how to make traditional Peruvian dishes. By the time I was a teenager, I knew my way around a kitchen. When I first came to the United States, I worked in many restaurants, learning how to prepare different cuisines. I had the opportunity to learn Mexican Italian, Japanese, French, and many more other styles of cuisine.
